In the UK, fire door compliance is a legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. This law places a duty on the Responsible Person—typically a building owner, landlord, or managing agent—to ensure that all fire safety measures, including fire doors, are properly maintained and regularly inspected. Fire doors must be in good working order, close correctly, and be fitted with suitable, certified components.
To strengthen safety in high-risk buildings, the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 introduced additional responsibilities for multi-occupied residential buildings over 11 metres tall. These include quarterly checks of communal fire doors and annual inspections of flat entrance doors. Any issues must be documented and resolved promptly.
